The Golden Age — VetroScope Series

The Golden Age is an ongoing series that reimagines mid-century cinema through VetroScope, a layered technique combining traditional oil painting with precision-cut vinyl film, reverse-applied to glass within a shadowbox frame. The process creates a subtle separation between surface and image, allowing light and shadow to interact quietly across the composition. The result is a contemporary object that brings together classical painting, graphic design, and cinematic imagery within a single frame.

Inspired by films such as To Catch a Thief, Rear Window, and Breakfast at Tiffany's, the series draws from production stills, film frames, and mid-century poster design. Each piece is independently composed — informed by cinema, but not reproduced from it.

Created in formats and proportions faithful to the era, the works are reimagined through a contemporary lens while retaining the elegance and restraint associated with mid-century film culture. From Riviera glamour to noir shadow, the series reflects an enduring fascination with poise, composition, and visual storytelling.

New works will be released throughout the year as the series continues to evolve.

Craftsmanship

At the heart of every VetroScope piece is a dedication to craftsmanship. Each painting takes 80 to 120+ hours, with multiple deliberate layers of oil paint adding depth and dimension. Once complete, precision-cut vinyl produced on a specialised plotter is hand-applied to the glass. Each work follows traditional size formats and is presented in a shadowbox frame with a 2-centimetre spacer and a 4-centimetre canvas depth, resulting in a total framing depth of 7 centimetres. This additional depth, greater than that of a standard frame, gives the work a stronger physical presence within the space. The frames themselves are crafted by an artisan in the historic centre of Vicenza. This synergy of time, skill and rarity ensures that every VetroScope original is a one-of-a-kind collector’s piece.
